Sentinels of the southwestern deserts, yuccas are extremely drought tolerant and store water in their trunks or bulbous bases. Their foliage grows in rosette form either at ground level or on stalks, trunks or branches. Many have leaves that are razor sharp and spine tipped. This yucca is located in the dune-fields of White Sands National Monument which is located in the Chihuahuan Desert in the southern part of New Mexico near Holloman Air Force Base and White Sands Missile Range.
