The Chief Theater opened on January 5, 1938 in Pocatello, Idaho. The majestic and beautiful theatre cost $250,000 and was constructed in just five months. The downtown landmark provided entertainment until it was closed in 1982. The Chief Foundation began working on refurbishing the building in 1985. On March 20, 1993 a fire gutted the building. All that remains of the Chief Theater is the tile mosaic reassembled on this spot, and the neon sign. The neon-lit Indian-chief head that watched over Pocatello's Main Street was a local landmark for many years, was recently restored and placed back where the the theater was located.
